P, PD, PI, PID Control 2P T1T2 Step Response

Cuthbert Nyack
Applet shows the step response of a type 0 system with P, PI, PD and PID control.

P control (Orange) has an offset and oscillatory behaviour. Introducing I control to P removes the offset but increases the oscillatory response(Red). Adding D to P damps out the oscillations but leaves the offset(Cyan). Adding I and D to P control removes the offset and damps the overshoot and oscillations(Green).

The applet shows the closed loop(CL) poles, magnitude of the complex conjugate poles (wn), the angle q which the cc pole makes with the real axis and the damping factor z for P, PD, PI and PID controllers.
