2 Pole Modified 2 Step Response

Cuthbert Nyack
The unit step response of a 2 pole type 0 system with a modified step input is shown in the applet below.
In one case R(s) = 1/s while with the modified step the input is shown in the Applet. This double modification provides greater flexibility compared to a single modification.
The open and closed loop transfer function for the system is
G(s) = K/(s(T1s + 1)), C(s)/R(s) = K/(s(T1s + 1) + K))
eg parameters (5.0, 1.0, 0.4, 1.0, 0.44, 1.0) show step response without step modification.

eg parameters (5.0, 1.0, 0.4, 1.59, 0.44, 0.09) show response with modified step (green) without overshoot. For comparison, response without modification is shown in red.

eg parameters (5.0, 1.0, 0.34, 2.0, 0.46, 0.01) show response with modified step (green) when the input is restricted to values 0, 1 and 2. For comparison, response without modification is shown in red.

eg parameters (5.0, 1.0, 0.5, 1.18, 0.5, 0.3) show response with modified step (green) when the input changes are restricted to times 0, 0.5s, 1.0s. For comparison, response without modification is shown in red.
